I started my freezer cooking journey about an hour and a half ago and it's going pretty well (I guess), considering I drew up the plan last night and haven't even been to the store yet!
I tend to buy meats in bulk so I had all of the ground turkey I needed and about 1/4 of the chicken I needed. I started by browning 13 pounds of ground turkey, boiling 8 lbs of chicken, and making 20 cinnamon rolls:
The cinnamon rolls will be flash-frozen (frozen individually on a pan and then separated and bagged by 2's), the chicken will continue to boil until it falls apart, and the ground turkey will be used in my recipes. WAIT. If only I had the ingredients for those recipes!
I was so excited to get started on this journey to "what's for dinner" freedom I forgot to go to the store! I'm not so small-brained that I literally forgot I needed to buy ingredients for my culinary adventures, but I failed to realize my cooking would come to a screeching halt once the basics were done. I had originally planned to head to the store with my little (okay, BIG) list in hand first thing this morning, but I figured if I could get a head start by getting some things cooked I'd be doing great. I'm now envisioning bubbly lasagna and juicy hamburgers, but it's time to burst my foodie bubble and push my cart aisle by aisle to make these dreams come true.
I am already working out my assembly list for tomorrow, but I'll do what I can this afternoon when I return from Randalls. Stay tuned for more freezer cooking mishaps - I'm sure my husband is laughing at me from work as we speak!
You may not be as organized, but Im sure Betty can't save like you do!
