I got an email the other day from my grandma Vonn absolutely filled with some great household tips and tricks I wanted to share:
1. When bananas stay connected together they go bad quicker. Separate them as soon as you bring them home.
2. Cheese wrapped in aluminum foil will stay fresh much longer and will be less likely to mold.
3. Adding a teaspoon of water to cooking ground beef will help pull out grease.
4. Add a teaspoon of sour cream, cream cheese, or whipping cream to scrambled eggs to make them taste richer.
5. Add melted chocolate candies (andes mints, snickers, milky way, etc..) to a pan of baked brownies for a neat treat.
6. Reheat pizza in a skillet instead of in the microwave for a crispier crust.
7. When making deviled eggs, put all ingrediens into a plastic ziploc baggie and mash until mixed. Cut one end and pipe the filling into eggs. No mess! (I do this every time I make deviled eggs - awesome!)
8. When using store-bought frosting to ice cakes or cookies, whip it with your mixer to double the volume. More frosting, less calories!
9. When reheating bread items in the microwave, place a cup of water inside to help keep the bread moist.
10. When planting your garden, use layers of wet newspaper as a weed barrier. It works, TRUST ME!
11. When picking up small shards of broken glass, use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip.
12. To keep mosquitos at bay, place a dryer sheet in your pocket.
13. To reduce static cling on clothes, add a safety pin to the bottom of your shirt, pant leg, blouse, etc...
14. Instead of shaving cream, use hair conditioner to shave your legs. Much cheaper!
15. Cornmeal placed near ant hills will kill them within a week (they can't digest it).
16. The waxy substance on dryer sheets builds up on the lint filter and can cause fires and will shorten the life of your dryer. Clean it twice a year with a bit of soapy water and a toothbrush.
