Enter that great site I told you about yesterday called Knock-off Wood. I found some plans for a simple outdoor table and figured I'd give it a shot.
I ran up to Lowe's this morning once the kids were off to school and bought my wood:
Forgive the ugly garage - that's a to-do list for ANOTHER day!
I gathered my supplies:
Gotta have a pencil and a yardstick!
Essential: a SAW!
Since I couldn't find hubby's shop glasses I had to use my Oakley sunglasses (don't worry, I got these $180 sunglasses for only $29.99 last year at 6pm.com - what a steal!). They certainly did the job and I looked stylish as I worked:
I was quite nervous to use the saw. Kevin suggested the table saw, but since he wasn't home and "impatient" is my middle name, I just had to get started using the circular saw! I was honestly shaking, but here's the result of my first cut:
Look mommy - I still have ALL my fingers!
All kidding aside, using the saw was pretty simple, but after about a bazillion cuts with this thing I realized why Kevin prefers the table saw. It would have been much easier with the other saw, but what's a beginner project without a few lessons along the way?
Anyhow, I finished framing the whole table in one hour - yeah for me!
1 hour = 1 frame!
By this time I was pretty excited about my progress, so my growling tummy just had to keep growling - there's something to be said about momentum! By the end of hour two I had all my boards for the tabletop measured and cut:
"Placed" on top of the frame
In two hours and 15 minutes I assembled the frame, measured and cut all boards, and began dreaming of becoming "Bob-by" Jean Vila!
Time for lunch and a bubble bath....:o)
Good job mama!! The kids should get alot of use out of this, especially now that summer is almost here. This is pretty cool, we all liked it here, and the pictues were fun!
