Primer? Who Needs Primer??

Remember when I told you all I'd be sharing my mishaps as well as my successes?  Well....I've got a doozy to share today!

We have grand plans for the big wall in the girls' room.  We're thinking masterpiece folks.  Yep - it's gonna be awesome (what you see is not even close to how cool it's gonna be in the end!).  I left you all hanging yesterday looking at this:

Not fabulous, but I think you can begin to see a glimmer of potential, right?  Well, genius that I am, I decided to paint the fresh white in the center, and the black along the outside so I didn't have to tape too many times.  I just ran the black along the outside edges and planned to add another color in the middle of the black and white.  So I did.  Oops.

Any guesses on what step I just might have forgotten here?  I'll tell you: PRIMER!!!  I am such a dummy - I *thought* I could get away without primer because the pink is dark, the black is dark, so the pink will cover the black, right?  Wrong.  In soooo many ways.  Here's what I got after the second coat of pink:

Bummer.  My little quart of paint is almost gone, so I guess it's back to Home Depot for me.  How many coats do you think this is gonna take?  Three?  Four?  We'll just have to see.  I feel ridiculous though - one little bitty, teensy tiny quart of paint is $11.00, and the whole gallon is only $23.00!  UGH!!

Anywho, I did get started on a few craft projects for the room today.  I forgot we had the Pottery Barn Kids Jacqueline memo board leftover:

Bad picture, sorry!

My brilliant, super smart, gorgeous daughter Caitlin suggested we change the fabric and paint the frame to make it match the room.  Why didn't I think of that?!  So I tore it apart and spray painted the frame black:

Looks better already!

I then purchased some super cute fabric from Hobby Lobby to replace the Jacqueline muslin:

This pretty fabric will be used in three different projects throughtout the room, so you'll just have to stay tuned to see where else I use it...;o)

I also coerced Kevin into hanging the new curtains and rod:

They *sparkle*!

I'm out to the garage in a few minutes to start assembling the beds - I'm really hoping to start staining them on Monday so we can start putting a few things back together in here!

A new installment of room makeover is coming tomorrow...have a great weekend everyone!
